Bin day

A bin collection reminder that knows which bin it is

Radar gives you a bin collection reminder the day before, saying which bin goes out: the black one this week, the green one next. Set it once and it repeats every fortnight.

£10 a month at the founding price until 31 March 2027, locked for 24 months. Your money back within 14 days if it isn’t for you.

The problem

Every other week, a different bin

Fortnightly collections alternate, so the question each week is not just whether it is bin day but which bin. Get it wrong and it is another fortnight with an overflowing bin.

The council’s website has the answer. Remembering to look, every week, on the right evening, is the hard part. A reminder that only says “bin day” is half an answer; the useful one says which bin, the day before, while the bins are still round the back.

What Radar does

Bin day, on your Radar

Which bin, which week

Life setup asks when the black bin next goes out, and the green one. Each repeats fortnightly on its own week.

Your council’s colours

Blue, brown, grey? Rename either bin to match what your council collects.

The day before

A reminder on your phone the day before and on the day, held quietly overnight.

With everything else

Bin day sits beside the MOT, the renewals and the week’s appointments, so home life is on one screen.

How to

How to set up a bin collection reminder

Most councils publish collection days on their website, by postcode, and many alternate bins week by week. Setting a reminder takes a minute once you have the dates.

  • Look up your address on your council’s website and note the next collection date for each bin.
  • Check whether they alternate: black one week, green or recycling the next is common.
  • Set each bin as its own repeating reminder, every fortnight from its next date.
  • Choose a reminder the evening before or the day before, whenever you actually put bins out.
  • Watch for changes around bank holidays and Christmas, when councils often move collection days.

Radar asks when each bin next goes out, names them as your council does, and repeats them fortnightly, beside the rest of the home dates.

Questions

Does Radar know my council’s collection days?

No. You give it the next date for each bin from your council’s website, and it repeats every fortnight from there.

Can I change the bin colours?

Yes. Rename them to whatever your council uses.

Can my partner get the reminder too?

Every paid seat comes with a free Home seat for your partner, with their own Radar for home life.

What about bank holidays?

Councils often move collections around bank holidays and Christmas. When yours does, change that one date in Radar and the fortnightly pattern carries on from the new day.

Can I add a third bin?

Yes. Add any other collection, like garden waste or glass, as a repeating item with its own name and date.

Put bin day on your Radar.

Two questions, and the right bin goes out every week.
