From the Pensions Act 1995, Schedule 4, Part 1, as amended (legislation.gov.uk, up to date to 15 October 2026). For anyone born after 5 October 1954 the rules are the same for men and women.

When does the State Pension age go up to 67?

Gradually, from May 2026. Someone born from 6 April 1960 to 5 March 1961 reaches State Pension age at 66 and between 1 and 11 months, one more month for each month of birth: born on 20 September 1960, for example, at 66 and 6 months, on 20 March 2027. Anyone born from 6 March 1961 reaches it at 67, from 6 March 2028 (Schedule 4).

When does it go up to 68?

In law, between 6 May 2044 and 6 March 2046, for people born from 6 April 1977 to 5 April 1978, each on a day the law fixes; anyone born from 6 April 1978 reaches it at 68 (Schedule 4). The State Pension age must be reviewed during each Parliament, so later changes are possible (GOV.UK).

Born on 29 February?

In a year with no 29 February, Schedule 4 does not say which day you reach the age, so the calculator flags it and GOV.UK’s checker gives your date.
