Renewing a UK passport: adults and children

Renewing an adult UK passport costs £102 online or £115.50 with a paper form. A child passport (under 16) costs £66.50 online or £80 by post and is valid for 5 years. Do not book travel until the new passport arrives: it has a new number.

Before you apply

  • Check how long it will take. HM Passport Office publishes its current processing time on GOV.UK; check it before you apply (GOV.UK).
  • Do not book travel until you have a valid passport: the new one will not have the same number as the old one, so bookings and travel documents that use the old number need updating (GOV.UK).
  • Turning 16? A child under 16 gets a child passport; at 16 or over it is the adult process (GOV.UK).

Renew early, not late

Some countries want months left on a passport when you arrive, so the expiry date is not the date that matters: the date you travel is. Renewing well ahead of a trip is cheaper in stress than a fast-track appointment.

What Radar does with this

  • Life setup asks: “When do the passports in your household expire?” Some countries want months left on a passport when you travel. Radar reminds you nine months ahead. Radar reminds you 270 days ahead.
  • Life setup asks when each passport in the house expires and reminds you nine months ahead, so a renewal never has to race a holiday.

Radar reads the calendars, task lists and CRM you connect, and the dates you give it. It writes back only when you press a button, and it never sends anything by itself.

Limitations and status

  • Fees change: GOV.UK’s page on the day you apply is the one that counts.
  • Radar does not apply for passports. It reminds you of the expiry dates you give it.

Also free: Radar Lite, the habit tracker on its own, for you and anyone 13 or over in the family.
